Case Study: Rolls Wood Group

Rolls Wood Group approached Filpumps to investigate a solution which could help reduce the amount of waste produced at their facility in Dyce, Aberdeen.

The company provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services to operators of Rolls-Royce industrial aero-derivative gas generators in the global oil and gas, power generation and marine propulsion industries, covering engine capabilities such as Avon, RB211, Olympus, 501k series and 570/571 series gas generators and Rolls-Royce Power Turbines.

After each engine is dismantled for inspection, the parts are passed through a “clean line” which removes all traces of grease, dirt and scale. This produces waste containing products such as grease which cannot be discharged to the sewer for environmental constraints and to comply with discharge consent.

Filpumps were approached by Rolls Wood Group to investigate an effluent treatment system which would remove all the contaminants and allow the remaining water to be filtered down the drain.

A pilot plant was first set up to investigate the feasibility of removing the solids and this proved to be very successful. This was then scaled up to a full system housed in a purpose-built self-contained kiosk.

The system has been a tremendous success and takes the raw effluent from both the Avon and RB211 facilities, removes the solids, corrects the pH and produces concentrated solids which are then safely removed from site.

The system has produced significant cost savings as only a small fraction of the waste product is now collected from site, the remainder flowing freely and safely to waste.
